That's right, it's that time of the week again!
Okay, I am working on 2 sermons right now, but I will just post some ideas for one of them. I am running with the idea of how our identity is wrapped up in our faith community.
Peace!

Passage: Matthew 16:16-18
Read over this passage and reflect on it, and let me know how it makes you feel, what you think about it, how this is possible, etc.
A question...or two...or three: In the context of the Gathering, where do you find your identity? What role does the Gathering play in your identity? What role does the church as a whole (worldwide) play in your identity?
Reflect on these quotes, and ask yourself what they mean to you:
Letty Russel says “The church is what it was because it has a story that is rooted in God’s action in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.” (Found in Platcher, ed. Essentials of Christian Thoelogy).
Wayne Cordeiro says “Methods are many, principles are few; methods always change, principles never do.” (Found in Mallory,S. The Equipping Church).
Well...those aren't many notes, but hopefully it will provoke some thoughts. I look forward to your comments!
Blessings,
-Tim

This passage reminds me that we, as believers, are welcomed into the community of the Trinity. It is also great to see Jesus being the first to cheer on Peter after he confessed his faith in Jesus' Messianic identity. Perhaps that is the fate of all newly formed Christians who daily live out a life of professed faith in practice.
(Peter's definition of the word "Messiah" would be interesting to explore, though it does not seem like the time or place right now).
It's great to be a part of the worldwide body of Christ and living it out within the Gathering community. My identity, like Peter's, is so incredibly and unashamedly wrapped up in Jesus' Messianic claim that it is beyond help. If Jesus isn't the Messiah, then Peter isn't the "rock." And, if Peter isn't the "rock," then how are we building our foundation on the Apostle's teachings about a false Messiah?
I'm just glad Jesus is the Messiah, and that the Gathering provides a place to celebrate that fact, share life, and experience what it is like to fend off the "gates of Hades."
You rock Tim and Gathering staff! Thanks for allowing the Spirit to work wonders through you all...
Blessings,
